Essen in Germany. One of the city's rare cyclists waits to cross the road. The roads here are built on an enormous scale, and driving is easily the most popular means of transport. Cyclists are expected to use the pavements along with pedestrians, and there are very few cyclists. A multiple stage crossing such as this can take a long time to get across.

Note also the pedestrian walk-way in the background which doubles the distance from one side of the road to the other for pedestrians who cross using it.
