This gate was put in place to stop Tesco customers from using the road as a rat run with their cars (they now go the long way around). There are plenty of residents cars parked either side of the gate, but it's a quiet road for traffic. The markings aren't a cycle lane as such, but it is a useful short cut to Whitelands Way and avoids the A12. The cycle lane as seen in the picture is about 18 ft long and that's it.
