Final check before the big push
Batten down the hatches!! This is what the signs say:
"Calvine 18
Pitlochry 29"
"WARNING
Drumochter Summit
Cycle track climbs to 457m
Weather conditions deteriorate without
warning and can be severe even in summer
No food or shelter for 30km
No snow clearance or gritting on cycle track"
Note that the blue NCR signs measure in km, although units are conspicuously missing! (A dumb move in a country where distances are still measured in miles.)
We can vouch for the accuracy of the warning, except that we had bouts of driving needle-prick rain instead of snow, and we could not abstain from gritting our teeth as we fought the fierce headwinds for an additional hour.
