UPDATE JAN 2018 The barrier has been removed and there has been no reports of motorcycles mopeds using this route. UPDATE AUG 2017 The latest Highways England standard OCT 2016 www.cycling-embassy.org.uk/dictionary/access-barrier states that these barriers must not be used at all, because they prevent access by various types of cycle, as well as other types of mobility aid, including wheelchairs and mobility scooters. One of the horrible junctions this route would by pass has had loads of money spent to create a double roundabout (the promised changes from 2013 !!!!to this barrier have however failed to materialise) twitter.com/OurAltrincham/status/901719464856756224 This does not improve for cyclists. Just a little money would improve immensely by removing this barrier to nervous cyclists. The other junction that would be by passed #92067 is even worse with impatient drivers harassing. UPDATE NOV 2013 Trafford are planning to change the gate here at Daresbury Avenue, to another one that should deter motorbikes but will make it easier for people to _walk_ bikes. finance for this won’t be available 'til the new financial year though 2014/15
Route to Altrincham is blocked by an "inverted U" shaped barrier. A spoiler to wheelchair users double buggies and people just wanting to push their bikes loaded with shopping from @ouraltrincham and baby too. Part of a natural walking/cycling route from Timperley to Altrincham bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx cycle.travel/map/journey/55092
This kind of unwelcome feature I am guessing is a sign of the old boundaries between towns within the now larger boroughs. This one is an old boundary between Altrincham and Timperley. The larger Trafford borough has been in existence since 1974 and its about time the borough was made more connected (removal of these awful barriers and horrible muddy paths that appear at the old boundaries)
