boards have gone up and diversion signs are going up
UPDATE15/8/2013 : UU have agreed to place diversion signs for the 2 Km route in approx 2 weeks time (Works are for 8 or 9 months).
I encountered this blockage to NCN55 today. United Utilities (UU) are carrying out repairs to the drains I presume. Unfortunately the diversion signs for cyclists are non existent. THE DIVERSION SHOWN FOR PEDESTRIANS IS UNUSABLE FOR CYCLISTS AND INVOLVES MANY STEEP STEPS. see also #52211 #52213 #52214 #52216
This route is well used by cyclists for leisure and to get to work etc. and it is unacceptable that UU have not considered cyclists as they are obliged to do.
For information I have compiled a diversion route that avoids the steps which are impossible for ordinary cyclist.

This route is 2 km but only a few diversion signs would be required.
Alternativley a more direct route but with more on road:
bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx
This diversion is 3 km but more direct.
I have indicated access from roads as shown on the latest Salford cycle map No. 10
The info on the United Utilities sign at the start of the blockage at the southern ends reads
Tel No. 08457 462 200
Ref: NCA80021997
I hope this situation can be resolved quickly to reconcile with the standards expected for Vélocity 2025
