Photo number:
Photo #58924

I had a very nasty crash (knocked unconscious, grazing and severe bruising) at about 9am on May 19th just here as I saw the cycle lane but didn't see the barrier blocking the access.

I took the photo two days after the accident (I was 'busy' in hospital and bed before) and the rain and static camera make the "separation" easy to see.

On a bright sunny morning everything was 'light grey' and what I did see, from a bicycle at about 20 Mph exiting a roundabout about 20 feet before the location of the photo (a second or two), was the blue and white cycle lane panel and the white cyclist pictogram.

Be warned.

I wasn't on the cycle lane already because several (a dozen or so) articulated lorries were parked on the previous stretches the cycle lane (the road passes through the port).

My helmet saved my life and powerful muscles stopped my back breaking and my pelvis shattering - I got off lightly with a day in hospital, destroyed glasses, back pain, spilt helmet, distressed wife (will I be allowed to ride again), smashed pump (otherwise my bike is fine).

Safe cycling Nigel
