St Kilda Road is one of the busiest roads for cycle traffic heading into the city. It has had some controversy due to a bottle neck over the bridge heading into the city where shared use paths have been frustrating both cyclists and pedestrians. Cyclist have been vilified for using both the path and the road. Big issue has been with the two taxi ranks heading into the city in front of the Arts Centre and the Train Station and the reduction to one lane heading into the city. However this route into the city has long been closed to all but trams, taxis, service/emergency vehicles and bicycles.

Recent work is a huge improvement with fully separated lanes and a painted lane over the bridge - removing the need for shared use. It is still quite patchy in places.

Location is approximate.
