Iceland does not own the land their Fulford Road, York outlet is on. However, it paid for Sheffield racks as a gesture of goodwill towards its customers who choose to cycle, after concerted lobbying by a local cycle advocate.
The new racks are some way from the entrance and from the trolley park. Therefore, as the photo shows, some people prefer to use the railing around the trolley park.
The previous 'cycle parking' was on the site of the new Sheffields. It was of the discredited "wheel bender" type and had a single wheel on it for months. (Had the remainder of the bike been stolen?)
