Ashfield Road Altrincham Trafford contraflow for cyclists. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HIGHLIGHTED AT TRAFFORD CYCLE FORUM ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION BUT NOTHING IS DONE. Warning signs required and road layout change signs required on the traffic flow side.
Description:
Ashfield Road, off Hale Road/Stamford Park Road, Hale: This is in many ways similar to Harley Road #96157. Ashfield Road is bi-flow from its north end (junction with SPR) to the junction with Elm Road, about 40 metres from it south end junction with Hale Road. That 40 metres is single flow south bound for motor vehicles but northbound cyclists are permitted since there is a dedicated 8m cycling lane from Hale Road. Southbound motorists over that 40m length have no warning to expect oncoming cyclists. There needs to be a sign at the junction with Elm Road to warn motorists of this potential hazard. Ashfield Road is invariably heavy with parked cars and moving vehicles/those waiting to turn onto Hale Road generally occupy the centre of the available road leaving little space for cyclists to pass safely.
