Hadrian's Cycleway takes a loop to the north here - we chose to go straight on.

Very long fast descent into the Tyne valley

It turns there are rings to lock bikes to on the wall in the background at Birdoswald Roman fort - but no obvious way to get there.

Nothing to lock bikes to at Banks Turret on Hadrian's Wall - but no real need.

If this could be made into a shared-use cycleway Hadrian's Cycleway could take a much shorter route.

Hadrian's Cycleway takes a bit of a loop here - we preferred to take the main road to the left for half a mile to pick up another very quiet lane.
