It is days like today that highlight how car centric Glasgow is. Almost 50% of Glaswegians don't have access to a private car. While the roads were ice free, the paths were like ice rinks. #activetravel #travelpoverty https://t.co/vhkNFMcgc ... [more]

Lots of ice on the Kelvin Walkway, next to the canal aqueduct, at a point where there is water running down slope onto path.

Compacted snow turned to ice on Kelvin Walkway, and with no gritting, staying frozen in shadow of railway viaduct.

No gritting of active travel routes in Glasgow. This is Dalsholm Road in Dawsholm Park after much of the ice elsewhere had melted in the sun. This section suffers from poor drainage (see nearby photos) and the water runs down the hill to th ... [more]

A bicycle travelling across a lake - "Zwischenahner Meer" near Oldenburg. A thin layer of grippy snow helps cyclists to use the route straight across the lake as an almost traffic free shortcut (there are a few sailing boats on ice-skates).

This gives you an idea how close the rides are to the path.

Shows the distance between the rides and bike racks. If it got crowded, it would be difficult to move bikes and people about, imo.

Two, possibly three fairground rides (you can argue about the bungee one) when there should only be one with Cambridge on Ice. NB: I've been asked to make clear that this issue was subsequently resolved and two rides removed.

NCN 75 at Anderston Quay still getting used even when it is covered in ice!

Sustrans path near York Racecourse where poor drainage design leads to black ice at bottom of a slope and on a bend! The 'non skid' surface is no help here.

The headline "Assen still has enough gritting salt". The photo above it shows how pot-holes are dealt with before they have a chance to get serious. They're fixed even before the winter has gone. A gas burner is used to melt the ice away ... [more]

Cycling on an iced over road. Note: this is on a bridleway with a thin layer of ice on top. It is not an iced-over river or canal, where riding a bike would be very dangerous and potentially fatal.

Lots of ice at a tricky spot at midday - no sign of it shifting by 1.20.
