Following the attempt to use temporary lights (#189852 and #189853) they've given up - not ideal for the walk to school.
Local traffic chaos due to parked cars blocking cars trying to pass queuing cars. Also no lights on Chedworth St, one light for both Grantchester St and Eltisley Avenue.

Interesting story... I reported this pothole to the county highways department, they denied it was anything to do with them and they didn't know who owned the road (despite leading to a public car park), but the city confirmed it was a … [more]
There are two new potholes on the Driftway - a major cycle route but not a through road, so we'll see how long it takes to get them fixed.
I reported this on the county highways web form in February - 'It's a hole that you occasionally fix but it keeps coming back, perhaps because vehicles are turning. Please do it properly!' and received a reply in June - 'We are pleased to … [more]
Not easy to see, but one sign reads Roadworks from 27/4 for 4 days, the other reads Roadworks from 29/4 for 3 days - and they're both still there well into May.
What I kept telling councillors and officers was one of the most abused ASLs in Cambridge has been repainted at last, along with the whole junction.
A clear need for cycle stands in place of a car-parking space. Submitted to the Cambridge parking consultation, let's see what happens.
New fencing for two houses, new cycle stands for one - the nearest of the four available spaces won't get much use, I predict - if only they'd put them in at a slight angle.
New cycle parking at Newnham's Co-op - and Don't Park in the Garden signs - this was until recently a low box hedge which people often leant their bikes on. So there may well be problems here.
People might think that this refers to parking at the entrance to Grantchester Meadows, but no, it refers to South Green Road, the private close to the right.
There was talk of parking being banned here (except for disabled blue badge holders?) but nothing has happened.
Yet again, someone has had a brilliantly original idea for free advertising, in a rather anti-social location. How long will it last?
A letter to Newnham residents from the Lib Den councillors - the petition against removing car parking at the start of Grantchester Meadows will be considered by the county council, so there will be no changes before 27 July.
Car parking at the north end of Grantchester Meadows, proposed for closure - since the introduction of parking restrictions in Newnham Croft, and the growth in van-living, the numbers of vehicles here have gone up. There's a clear need for … [more]
Car parking at the north end of Grantchester Meadows, proposed for closure - it used to be that the road surface was terrible here, and that vehicles tended to only park at the far end - but since the introduction of parking restrictions in … [more]
Notice of the county council's plans to close the car parking at the north end of Grantchester Meadows, and a petition against it.
This stretch of the fen has been flooded for over a month - there's a free-flowing stream to the right but somehow the cycle path seems to be an impermeable barrier to drainage.
Gas works on Newnham Road - the Covid-19 lockdown makes this a pretty stressfree time to block the road.
The cost of poorly maintained cycling infrastructure... Frame snapped in two at the bottom bracket, from the battering it receives from Newnham's potholes.
No idea what this sign is doing here - as the painted marking makes clear, this is a shared-use cycle route.
Battered railings encroaching further into a narrow shared path. Why exactly are they needed? The next crossing does not have railings.
This was already a very tight and awkward gap to negotiate. Knuckle crusher rails were installed last year to punish anybody who didn't get their alignment quite right. This bollard has now been added to make it even more difficult and make … [more]

I applaud the Newnham Bakery taking over a parking space for cycle parking, but I wish they'd installed stands which actually support bikes - it's not that well used as a result.
As if this gate wasn't awkward enough to negotiate before, somebody has bolted a post onto the narrow cattle grid. Why is there so much resistance to making this busy, popular route to Granchester cycle friendly?
Two Sheffield stands at this new Darwin College development, which don't seem to get much use - but at least no-one is parking a car here either.
Sadly predictable - Darwin College built accommodation with no easily accessible cycle parking, so bikes are chained to the fence outside.
There's a residents' parking scheme coming, and people are creating off-road car-storage spaces to avoid paying £52 a year.

Lots of fuss and bother - I think the road to the right is the one that's meant to be closed, and the diversion is straight ahead. In any case it's just a point closure so in most cases drivers can take the direct route to their … [more]
The council has found 50p down the back of the sofa and at last repainted the shared-use markings which had vanished years ago.
The County RoW officer says that local residents object to the surface of the Grantchester Meadows path here being repaired "because it would encourage parking". Well the state of it clearly doesn't deter parking, people park on the bits … [more]
Newnham crater field The start of the Grantchester Meadows path, destroyed by use as a casual car park
Funny how illegal parking on the double yellow lines comes and goes here - these may belong to builders (they were there most of the day).
This coffee trike has taken up residence in the mornings at the corner of Grantchester St and Barton Rd.
Two households with lots of heavy bikes with big baskets etc - please can we have some on-street parking to clear the footway?
Even in the middle of winter the bridleway between Barton and Grantchester is well used by cyclists, as can be seen by the multitude of tyre tracks in the mud. This really could do with a proper, sealed surface.
