There are plenty of reminders that cycling is not welcome on the promenade at Lee-on-Solent. Cyclists must use the shared-use footway alongside the road instead.

The western end of the Eastern Esplanade cycle track. The road markings suggest cyclists are meant to return to the carriageway, but a significant proportion of people on bikes were using the seafront promenade.

This gate blocks the way for cyclists following NCN73 at Saltcoats. Not even a dropped kerb to get up onto the footway and through the gap!

The cycleway is interrupted by a tree, so cyclists have to cross the gutter to get around.
