A barrier across the path between Donald's Quay and The Saltings. It's always worth checking whether the gate is locked or not. At this point, the path is running along the formation of a former railway line.

A big improvement on the old crossing, which required you to lift the bike over. These gates appear to be controlled by magnetic lock (I didn't look closely but there's an odd lump on the side of each one).

Quiet relative to the nearby A470, windy country road

As with #101515 the railway blocks progress along the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath, and a flight of steps provides the connection to the adjacent A9 road bridge.

On the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath approaching the railway and steps at #101515.

The immediate way around the blockage in #101515 is to use this flight of steps up to the A9 bridge to cross the railway. The alternative is to use the road approach to the bridge to avoid the steps.

The railway crosses the canal here and blocks the towpath. There are steps up to an adjacent road bridge to the right (see #101516).

While the Clyde Walkway isn't exactly an ideal cycle route, it is disappointing to see such an awkward barrier at the John St access in Blantyre.

Access maintained for pedestrians and cyclists during bridge works. Narrow but way better than a lengthy diversion.

Quiet on a Sunday morning, but plenty of room for motoring under the Turner Road railway bridge in Colchester. The lane the cyclist is in is a bus lane.

An attempt has been made to brighten up this narrow passageway under the railway, but no-one has come back to keep it in good order.

A route sign for the route to the right on a square post, but only stickers for the route straight ahead through the tunnel.

Grudging footpath crossing of the railway with cycling across not allowed. Instead of automatic barriers, we get heavy metal gates that easily slam back onto your heels and to add insult, the official signs call the location "Nowhere FPW"!

Temporary, I know, but a good demonstration of a lack of understanding (or care). Work being done to move the drop kerb around the corner (which might make sense). Work crew take OUT old drop kerb before finishing new one. Thus no drop kerb ... [more]

Narrow and blind - the path under the railway bridge on Ditton Meadows. This is acceptable as a "temporary" fix, but a permanent solution is needed to give acceptable width and sight lines.
