Subway under Preston Park Station. This is about as good as it is possible to make a subway: brightly painted, drains both sides of the footway, mirrors, clear signage and well lit. Obviously too narrow though!

Lots of pavement parking by motorists outside Shields Road subway station in Scotland Street, despite the huge multistorey car park built for the purpose next door. Still only a single cycle parking stand.

Although still accessible, the new cycle parking at Kelvinbridge station is surrounded by building contractor's skips, hoardings and containers, making it rather unwelcoming.

Underpass towards Portsmouth ferry port

The cycle route goes through the underpass beneath the railway line at King's Park station, which also serves as the entrance to the station. Thus the white lining guides cyclists away from the staircase up to the platform.

Kelvinbridge Subway station now has some cycle stands in the car park, in addition to #51137 around the back.

They've done their best to cheer up this otherwise grim subway - which is notable for the delightful lack of any obstructive barriers.

Mud collecting at the bottom of unswept underpass. One of the problems identified about the underpass before it was upgraded was poor drainage. It seems that this hasn't been sorted.
