A short diversion around some ongoing work, but the uneven surface and narrow width make it rather awkward to negotiate.

A short but awkward diversion around some ongoing work, see #170152.

The correct Cycleway tactile slabs have arrived in North Canal Bank Street and await fitting in place of the incorrect corduroy Hazard tactiles.

The contraflow cycle lane has been kept open through the roadworks - the awful speed humps on Bateman Street are finally being replaced.

The three collapsing speed humps at the eastern end of Bateman Street have been removed - with luck, something better might appear soon.

Building work continues at Clyde Place. The cycle track approaching the Tradeston Bridge has been rebuilt. However, the position of the temporary railing directed me onto the new kerb which I wasn't expecting.

Temporary cycleway on Coldham’s Common, with little ramps to help corner cutters.

Temporary path during building work - there's a dropped kerb to the left, but cyclists are better off on the next path to the south.

Installation work on a protected cycle lane in Royston Road. Alterations appear to have been made.

Changes afoot on Bateman Street?

Temporary traffic lights on Mill Road bridge.

Shared path closed!

Cycle way closed approaching the Newmarket Road roundabout.

If you're cycling on the shared-use footway, there's a temporary ramp and diversion. If you're using the on-road cycle lane, you're a bit stuffed.

Pothole inspection on Grange Road - how long will it be before the hole gets fixed? And why can't this be done by a small electric vehicle?

Ditton Meadows ramp and bridge.

Histon Road

The Chief Engineer and colleague watch as the sixth box culvert (of fourteen) is lowered into place at Newmarket Road. This is a week long closure of the road to build the underpass for the Chisholm Trail.

Big hole in Newmarket Road. Good to see! @camcycle https://t.co/9QhDkemVhB

New arrangement of the Histon Road roadworks, with cars northbound only, to the right of the bollards, and cyclists to the left - but without a sign here.

New arrangement of the Histon Road roadworks, with cars northbound only, to the right of the bollards, and cyclists to the left.

There's a largely redundant dual-carriageway, but instead of taking a lane to provide the missing link cycleway between Swavesey and Fenstanton, they're spending much more time and money on a new alignment in the fields.

Work progressing on the new bridge across the Forth & Clyde Canal at Stockingfield Junction.

Markings for improvements (?) on both footways of Madingley Road (and temporary traffic lights)

North Canal Bank Street is closed for extensive rebuilding. Pedestrian access is maintained to the left (see #165586).

Chisholm Trail rollout 🤗

Histon Road is now closed southbound except for cyclists - this is the rather messy arrangement at the southern end.

Histon Road is now closed southbound - most (but not all) of the No Entry signs have Except Cycle signs in place.

Histon Road is now closed southbound, except for cycles (although there is actually access for construction vehicles to Darwin Green to the right) - unfortunately there's no dropped kerb to reach it.

The southern end of the Garscube Road cycle track still hasn't been completed, but is at least now rideable. Top surface is all that is required. Further north, the path is complete up until Sawmillfield Street, with work in progress at the ... [more]

London contractors seem to be quite good at this nowadays.

Redevelopment on Round Church Street nearing completion.

[Image taken 18.2.21] York: First of a blizzard of signs aimed at road users on Wigginton Road ahead of works at the junction with Crichton Avenue. The road is uphill, the carriageway in each direction is very narrow. It is used by large ve ... [more]

[Image taken 18.2.21] York, Wigginton Road. Too many signs. Messages get lost. The Do not overtake cyclists sign is still completely obscured at this point and therefore has no value. See also: #164311, #164310, #164313, #164314, #164315

[Image taken 18.2.21] York, Wigginton Road. Only at this point do road users have a chance of seeing the Do not overtake cyclists sign. But this location is too late to make a difference. Plus drivers have had so many signs with so many mes ... [more]

[Image taken 18.2.21] York, Wigginton Road. Again, the Do not overtake cyclists sign would seem to have limited use being placed among a line of other signs, and therefore obscured. See also: #164311, #164310, #164312, #164313, #164315

[Image taken 18.2.21] York, Wigginton Road. The Do not overtake cyclists sign is now visible but it is very close to the junction. This would seem to limit the chances of drivers seeing it and is too late on this section of Wigginton Road f ... [more]

Cycleway closed for utility works - coming in to Cambridge it's easy to see a route through the bus stop lay-by, but heading out people just go across the muddy grass.

Cycleway by new road from Northstowe towards the A14.

Road under construction for future phases of the Northstowe development.

Bridge under construction for the next phases of the Northstowe development

Roundabout and bridge (in the distance) under construction for future phases of Northstowe.

Traffic flow has been reversed through the Histon Road roadworks. This gap is how cyclists are meant to rejoin the road network.

Traffic calming being installed - it's fairly obvious, but when the signs say Road Closed, they don't include cyclists and pedestrians.

Raising the path by a few feet above the flood. Cambridge Road, Stapleford

Coldham’s Common ground examination work, marking the start of construction of the Chisholm Trail.

Preparing for the underpass of Newmarket Road near the Leper Chapel.

Coldham’s Common work has started on the Chisholm Trail.

Good to see that cycles are allowed contraflow on the lengthy works on Histon Road, but quite narrow cycle lane staring down motor traffic.

The current state of the long-term roadworks on Histon Road - northbound traffic lane, southbound cycle lane

Abbey-Chesterton bridge craning into place. At this moment the engineers were waiting for the all-clear from Network Rail to confirm that the bridge could be moved into place as it is quite close to their bridge. I think power to the ove ... [more]

Abbey-Chesterton Bridge - airborne

'Cycleway Suspended' sign due to roadworks and temporary traffic lights - it looks well enough organised here, but there was a queue of cars all around the Waitrose car park where the lights were only letting a few cars out at a time.

Unloading crane parts

Crane parts delivered.

End of Cycleway sign at roadworks - dismount here

Finishing work still required at the southern end of the Garscube Road protected cycle lane. It will connecting into the underpass and other existing cycle infrastructure through Cowcaddens.

Temporary cycle lane during roadworks - no pedestrians allowed, in theory

One lane of carriageway closed to allow a cycleway deviation (of course).

The start of work on cycle lanes on Bilsland Drive. The lines go from here to Murano St/Shannon St so nothing much to see as yet. There were also some red paint marks at various points further east.

Construction work has started on a new bridge at Stockingfield canal junction, to remove the need to go down to Lochburn Road to cross the canal.

Yet more gas works :(

Claypits Nature Reserve bridge under construction over the Forth & Clyde Canal. There is a rough path to get around the side of the worksite.

Claypits Nature Reserve bridge under construction over the Forth & Clyde Canal.

New plaza being laid out in front to Doncaster station - I think I see a few cycle stands... but at the moment all cycle routes to the north are blocked.

On the plus side they haven't put a 'Cyclists Dismount' sign here, which is to be commended. On the downside, we have lots of signs on the pavement. We need a LTN/change in the law.

A temporary bus stop deployed while the Great Western Road cycle lane is built. This was the only temporary bus stop sign I saw in use.

A bus boarder under construction for the Great Western Road cycle lane. There is a temporary bus stop on the next corner.
