This article in the Cambridge Independent, March 2023, shows the value of parking in Cambridge. It demonstrates the enormous subsidy that people get when parking on-street for free, given the value of land in Cambridge. And yet some people complain about Residents’ Parking at £102/year - absolute bargain for motorists!

This means no road user or pedestrian can see. [Image taken 23.3.23] Burton Stone Lane (Bootham/Clifton end), York. Earlier this week I saw the wand had presumably been hit by a motorist. It’s now on the pavement outlined red in my image. The original position is marked by the dashed vertical line. As I was taking this image a pedestrian stopped to talk to me. He asked, Are you taking a photo of the damage? I said I was. He said he was a resident who is commissioning a noise review. His home is next to the second pair of speed cushions (see: #188990 including overview and links). I asked what he wanted to happen. He said he wanted the measures to come out. Other image today and links: #192206.

[Image taken 23.3.23] Bootham, York. Gates closed despite the sign (see: #191000) and the need. In the minute I was here four people on cycles exited that narrow gate on the right. No sightlines for anyone. No lights to enable them to know when it was safe(r) to cross this junction. This is part of the Scarborough Bridge to Bootham Park cycle route improvements scheme #177537. The site was to be redeveloped part of which included facilities for the public. A news item from 22.3.23 put the plans in doubt: yorkmix.com/shock-as-huge-bootham-park-hospital-redevelopment-is-axed-as-costs-spiral/. Other images today: #192207, #192208, #192209.

Cars are parked on one side at all times. Bottleneck at peak hours as it becomes a one-way road. Please widen this road (from 2 to 3 lanes) or put a double yellow line. A temporary traffic light at peak times would also help. Cars can then get out of this junction safely. Right now, cars must skid and needle through the busy main road traffic from both ways to join it. Accidents are bound to happen.

[Image taken 17.3.23] Denning’s Yard access, York. The distance between the stopline (see: #192126) and the carrigeway is around 17-18m. Uphill. And crosses a very well used NMU path. The people on this have no warning when vehicle turns into the cul de sac and towards/over the path. This is also the case when motorists are exiting Denning's Yard and access. People approaching the crossing may not see the vehicle as the sightlines are so limited. Plus, there is no visible warning a driver has a green light to proceed. Very many people who use the crossing are unaware there are lights for drivers leaving the cul de sac as they can't see them. When I was watching this junction today, exiting drivers were crossing onto the carriageway (junction) as or after the light on Denning's Yard access turned red. One driver stopped after the light turned green to talk to a pedestrian with a box of chips. The light turned red, and the driver could see it, but he continued though/over it.

MY EXPERIENCE: Another driver turned into mouth of the access road and was, it seemed, within touching distance of someone crossing the path. The pedestrian was seemingly unaware of the vehicle or how close it was. I saw the vehicle (a car-height van) only as it got close to the pedestrian.
