Since the sign faced across the path, I wasn't sure whether the 'Cyclists Dismount' sign applied to cyclists heading onto the Levern Walkway, leaving it, or just to those attempting to read the information board.

Traffic at the Kelburn Street/Neilston Road junction. This is the nearest dropped kerb to the sign in #194605, and there are no shared-use signs further down the hill. Some sides of the crossing have toucan crossing displays, others do not, but there is no explanation of what cyclists are expected to do.

Road environment:
Problem
194605 Photo #194605

The first sign to say this footway is shared use is hidden by a tree. No invitation to leave the carriageway to join it, and the nearest dropped kerb is back at the previous junction. The shared footway is not particularly wide, and continues up the hill to the edge of Neilston.

Amazing potholes considering this is a dead-end for motor traffic - but it's a National Cycle Route and a vital route to Addenbrooke's, so let's hope it gets fixed.

Better deliveries.
Better cities.
We'll keep shouting it from the rooftops!

P.S. We just had to have a scroll through the FT comment section, and this one was gold...

[Image taken 29.5.23] Scarborough Terrace, junction with Hudson Street, York. This vehicle has been here a few times when I've walked and cycled this route. For pedestrians the dropped kerb is obstructed. For all path and road users the sight lines are blocked. Families walk along here, our neighbours with mobility problems wheel/roll their walking aids along here, visitors and residents push buggies, and roll wheeled luggage and shopping bags along here, locals walk their dogs along here. [Image taken 29.5.23] Deangate, York. These racks are Sheffields - tick. They are well-placed for the city centre - tick. But they are of the toastrack design ie they have linking rails - you have to lift your cycle over them when entering and again when exiting the racks - cross. The gap could be made wider between the two sets of racks to create two end spaces for longer cycles or groups sharing locks. And the gap could be marked with logos designating them for disabled users or families - missed opportunity. Other image here today and links: #194589.

Cyclescape thread - 'Turning from Hills Road onto Glisson Road going east, there’s a “cycles only” lane on the left-hand side, with a concrete separate from traffic in the other direction. The camber is extremely steep in the cycle gap, and risks our cargo trike overturning. The barrier is well meant, but ultimately the steep camber means we have to enter on the wrong side of the barrier, which is less rather than more safe than not having a barrier at all.'
