Design versus actual use- a pile of wood chippings demonstrates that perhaps there was more space than calculated at this location?

58734 Photo #58734

Temporary (but for how long?) access to the Shelford path at Addenbrookes. To the other side of the small line of cones is a live road. Utterly, abjectly, awful.

This is bad for cyclists.

Terrible for those with long bikes or trailers.

It is awful for wheelchair users

It is downright dangerous for anyone on crutches, using a walking stick or walking frame or with other walking mobility issues.

Roadworks:

58215 Photo #58215

Oh dear. I think the idea is to access the shared use pavement via the drop kerb. Doesn't matter. Awful

General sign/notice:

49203 Photo #49203

See 49202 for more details. New sign on Harvest Way. Overly tall pole. And a mysterious old one- there's no exit opposite

General sign/notice:
Infrastructure
49202 Photo #49202

New cycle contraflow on Harvest Way. Island is set well back from the junction due to the CRT site needing access for articulated lorries- massively inappropriate traffic for such a location! The new facility is sort of welcome, but the finish quality leaves much to be desired

Cycle parking at Tesco Newmarket Road. Good, but problematic still for those with trailers

Cycle parking:

36433 Photo #36433

Current cycle provision at Hexcel Ltd (on a secure site). There's a second near-identical shack a few metres away. Nasty wheel banding closely space racks. A new shelter and racsk are on order. Thanks to a timely intervention, the Cambridge Cycle Camapign's cycle parking guidance has been used in specifying this- the project engineer says that it was invaluable.

Cycle parking:

33515 Photo #33515

Deep sloping gutter, massive high kerb. Why? just round the corner on the busway access is exemplary low kerb with drainage into the length of the kerb-stones.

Yes, it's a cycle bypass- but it is wide and leads straight into an advisory cycle lane to the junction

Cycleway:
Infrastructure
33513 Photo #33513

The bypass is bad enough- but why on earth does the start of it have "give way" markings?

Cycleway:
Problem
33512 Photo #33512

Awful cycle bypass round a rising bollard. Insane tactile paving. No idea what the sign post is.

Cycleway:
Problem
33511 Photo #33511

Southbound "bypass" at the rising bollard at the Railway station bus interchange. Vehicles coming out of the dropping off area have priority over any cyclists that use this!
Compare this to a different solution for a similar situation in Oldenburg: #19044

Cycleway:
Problem
33033 Photo #33033

The signs from #33032. Could do with being rationalised (a new NCN11 sign has been tacked on the bottom) and the road sign to the station is looking rather tatty. However, they're all useless thanks to the tree that hides them!

Route sign:

33032 Photo #33032

Cycle (and other road) signs. Honest. Includes a new NCN11 sign. See #33033.
