Cycle path looks rather narrow. It is also to have access to the Kaleidoscope CUP development and to Clarendon Road/ Fitzwilliam Road.

Both footways have been designated for shared use, but remain too narrow. At Netherhall Comm Coll (reported as wanting more cycling) it is important the footway should be widened. Elsewhere the designation is questionable.

The shared-use footway, north side of road, has End signs at every side road crossing. It is poorly maintained and not used by reasonably confident cyclists.

North side shared-use footway is poorly surfaced, and gets little cycle use, especially eastbound (downhill at this point)

Approaching Brookland Road: most cyclists use road, but when it is busy others wanting to continue ahead or enter Coe Fen use footway.

Soon after the worryingly narrow footway on the Ouse Viaduct (photo 18875) the route reaches the eastbound bus stops as a 3m width shared use footway. (Cycle parking is provided on the other side of the busway, off-camera to right.) The pinch caused by the WW2 pillbox is needlessly made worse by new cabinets (width about 2m), forcing a deflection into the pedestrian area. To reach Station Road, St Ives (ahead) the path crosses two wide busways, with right-angle turns.

Obstruction:
Problem

At Station Road, new construction, only guided buses to be allowed to proceed across the bypass road to the park and ride site and on towards Cambridge. A car trap to be installed. Cycles apparently to join the footway here, to cross the bypass. The footway is too narrow for shared use and obstructed by sign and lamp posts, the width at the bike is 1.6m, the post is directly in the path of cyclists leaving/ joining the carriageway.

St Ives bypass, at guided bus and cycle route crossing, P+R site behind camera. Here and elsewhere in this development the shared-use footway is faulty, with lamp columns and signposts obstructing a too-narrow surface, and right-angle turns. There is just under 2m width at the post in foreground, just over 2m width near the bike. Now this has been constructed the best fix would be to widen the path close to the crossing, and provide flush slips off the footway, definitely on the town (far) side, preferably also on this side.

New Ouse Viaduct (Guided Bus replaces railway) with very narrow path under construction. Path is to be dedicated as public bridleway, but is too narrow and frighteningly close to fast-moving buses.
