Nine scary overtakes in 500 yards of road!

Meet our daily Willingham High Street commute. Sleepy village this is not... we have a high speed rat-run through the middle of it with no cycling provisions. (There is a shared use path from the Busway to the outskirts, then this...)

Of the 9 overtakes one is almost OK. Three are pretty awful. Four are just scary. And the ForceOne lorry overtake is bloody insane! The ForceOne features in video #48303.

Is there anything that can be done about this? I'm not hopeful. It leaves me inclined to give up on the bike and start driving instead.

Stars of the show:

KF57 LHN
AV51 YPL
AF12 MZE (argh!)
NA05 BEW (ARGH!)
JA57 ORD (almost not a fail)
YD07 URC (argh!)
ForceOne Truck (can't read plate! See #48303)
AG06 KVM (ONCOMING!)
LY11 CVE (blind corner! See #48302)

Hi Rez: vimeo.com/yvanseth/forceone

A typical commute home through Willingham - bad overtakes galore.

ForceOne lorry, overtaking cyclists fast and close while approaching an intersection and a pedestrian crossing in a mid-village High Street. In contravention of the highway code, and in respect to the pedestrian crossing probably breaking the law as well.

Whoever is driving this murder weapon on wheels needs their license taken away. They're a danger to the public.

Driver of LY11 CVE passing while I'm nearly in centre of lane, approaching an intersection at a blind bend. (I'm preparing to turn right. This is the single worst point of my daily commute.)

This is on High Street in Willingham, approaching Church Street.

KF57 LHN treating the very clearly marked advanced stop zone as his own personal starting box. Driver pulled into this well after the lights were red, as can be clearly seen in the video. Unquestionably in contravention of the highway code (178) and related regulation. Nothing directly aggressive, but definitely intimidating from our point of view.

Cycling through flooded sections of the Cambridge Guided Busway cyclepath. Hard work. Probably not dangerous, but there was one section with a cross-current.

Aggressively engine-revving van driver creeping past me, through the cycle box, and into the intersection while the lights are still red.
